WRC Rally Germany Crowdfunding
23/07/2018 – Today I should have been testing on a Finnish rally road ready for WRC Rally Finland, but what can I do about it now?
Nothing, nada, zilch.
The only thing I can do is look forward, with just 3 weeks until WRC Rally Germany there is no time to think about what could have been.
There are 5 rounds left in the World Rally Championship and that is 5 chances to score points. The 0 score from Finland is now my dropped score from the 7 rounds, with the best 6 scores from 7 counting towards the WRC3 Championship. With the 15 points from the podium in Rally Sardinia, I have to score on all 5 remaining rounds of the World Rally Championship to have a chance. I have nearly all the sponsorship required to compete on Wales Rally GB in October, so that means I have 4 more rounds still to fund to get the 5 more scores on board.
So, that is the goal, now how to achieve it.
I need to find more genuine Commercial Sponsors and Grand Opportunity Sponsors, like all the great businesses that are on-board already, that can benefit from the combination of the business opportunities and the great publicity from the sporting involvement. It takes a lot of time to find new businesses and to go through the processes of sponsorship. At the moment I am only 3 weeks away from the next round; WRC Rally Deutschland, and with the latest unpaid invoices predicament, I need to make something happen fast. I have not give-up with all the unpaid invoices, I am just limited to what I can do and I need to focus on what I can do something about.
There are a lot of good talks happening and the future is promising. I know from experience how long things can take to progress, from the initial talking, to having everything in place to action sponsorship, and my gut feeling right now is that I will be short of the budget needed to compete on WRC Rally Deutschland, which just has to happen for a strong WRC3 campaign.
I have been approached by a lot of people about making a donation to the season or a crowd funding option. I have not, until now, had anything in place. My main focus is always the commercial sponsorships and providing a genuine business commercial return. That said, I have seen how massive an impact crowdfunding can make on things with Rally Sweden in 2017, when 2 rally fans set up crowdfunding pages and successfully funded the gap needed to compete, so it is a very powerful and amazing thing.
It feels a little bit awkward crowdfunding for yourself, I do also feel I am an absolute idiot, to be in this situation with people asking if they can donate to help, and then not giving those people a free choice to support if they want to, and are feeling kind enough to help make things happen. I have opened up a crowdfunding page where anyone can send anything that they wish to as a donation to me personally towards competing on WRC Rally Deutschland.
Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me to do this, I really do appreciate your kind support.
